Transport
The historic town of Tønsberg is in the heart of the county of Vestfold and there are plenty of convenient transport links. We suggest you use public transport as it is of course, more environmentally friendly, economical and is probably safer.
Bus & train
There are busses (www.timeekspressen.no) and trains (www.nsb.no) every hour between Tønsberg and Oslo. Local operator, Vestfold Kollektiv Trafikk (www.vkt.no) has routes between the larger towns in the county up to every half an hour. During the festival they will also lay on extra night busses, which we recommend wherever possible instead of using your car. Parking is limited and somewhat expensive.
Car
Tønsberg is not far from the E18 and is less than one and a half hour’s drive from Oslo. Drive time from Kristiansand is approximately three hours.
Air
The nearest airport is Sandefjord Torp (www.torp.no). The airport code is TRF and has direct flights to London Stanstead, Barcelona, Bremen, Copenhagen, Dublin, Frankfurt Hahn, Glasgow, Liverpool, Madrid, Marseille, Milan, Pisa, Stockholm and Warsaw. In addition, the many domestic connections include; Stavanger, Haugesund, Bergen and Trondheim. Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) is two hours by train and there are also connections from Moss Rygge (RYG) which is 90 mins away by ferry. Ryanair will split flights between Torp and Rygge from Spring 2010.
Boat
For those of you coming from Østfold, you can take the ferry from Fredrikstad (www.flybåten.no) direct to Tønsberg. The crossing takes approximately 40 minutes and there are several sailings a day. The port of Sandefjord is approximately 30 minutes away by road and has frequent sailings to and from Strømstad in Sweden (www.colorline.no).
If you’re planning to come with your own boat, Tønsberg has one of the best guest marinas in the country, right in the centre of town. We advise you to book ahead though, as at this time of year the marina is often very full (www.gjestehavn.no)
